If you want to know the plot, here’s the answer. The demon Hiranyakashyap seeks revenge on Vishnu and declares himself a god. His son Prahlad remains devoted to Vishnu. After the phenomenal success of films like KGF, Kantara, Hombale Films brings Mahavatar Narsimha, a visual spectacle animation film based on Lord Vishnu’s fierce incarnation, with Ashwin Kumar as the director. It’s a visually appealing breath-taking animated retake on one of Hindu Mythology’s amazing stories and the incarnation of Lord Vishnu as Narasimha to destroy the demon king Hiranyakashyap.
With the utilisation of spectacular visuals and breath-taking storytelling, the stunning spectacle brings to life an ancient tale of faith through divine justice which is a landmark achievement of the Indian animated cinema. The film starts with Maharishi Kashyap doing his routine Sandhya Pooja when one of his many wives, Diti seduces him as she desires to be a mother just like his other wives. While Maharishi initially dismisses her attempts as that time of the day is considered inauspicious as per Vedas and Puranas, as negative energy and demon souls roam during and take shelter in the womb, the man that he is, he later gives in. The next morning, a furious Kashyap yells at Diti as he realises that she is now pregnant with two powerful demons named Hiranyaksha and Hiranyakashipu.
Do not miss the beautifully created and depicted final battle between the half-lion, half-man reincarnation of Lord Vishnu and Hiranyakashyap, followed by Narsimha’s dualistic form of anger and mercy, which is perfectly executed. The film’s mind-blowing animation – along with its intricate character designs and color palettes, takes center stage making the film literally a visual treat for all viewers.
Director Ashwin Kumar rightly deserves accolades for bringing one of the golden parts of our Indian history, which not only speaks about our gods but also sheds light on devotion and important parts of our festivals and celebrations, like Holika Dahan. Worth recommending for kids too.
